About me
I grew up with parents that spoke Igbo at home, but I could only ever say the words “yes” and “no.” Even though my parents wanted me to speak Igbo, and I also wanted the same, it was difficult for me to speak the language. I understood it quite well, but for whatever reason, my tongue couldn’t form the words.
My parents tried everything when my siblings and I were younger to get us to speak. They tried to bribe us with money and sweets, threatened us with punishment, and even shamed us. But we still could not speak it.
As an adult, I wanted to change things for my son. Before he was born, I vowed to teach him to speak Igbo. In doing so, I forced myself to dig deep into what makes speaking a new language sometimes difficult.
I’m excited to put all the knowledge I’ve acquired into helping others grow in confidence, improve their memory, gain deeper appreciation of a different culture, and even improve their career prospects as they learn to speak a new language.
